Lancaster organisation celebrates 120 years in business with media partners

The Lancaster and District Chamber of Commerce is to hold a North Lancashire Expo event, in association with the Bay radio station.

To celebrate more than a century of being in operation, the chamber's event will be held at the Lancaster Brewery, with the aim of helping local businesses to network, as well as make the most of their relationships with consumers.

It will focus on business training, skills, education and what the future has to hold within the workplace.

The event will take place between September 24-25.

Chief executive officer Vicky Lofthouse (pictured) said: “We are very excited at having the opportunity to run what we believe is the first expo in the district.

“We know the problems that the area faces – skills shortages and skills retention and the expo is the first opportunity to talk directly to the next generations about what a wonderful area we have to live, work and play in.

"For too long the lure of the major cities has beckoned many of our youngsters away, but we see no reason why we shouldn’t keep our future talent to ourselves.

“In addition, with the UK leaving the European Union in two years’ time, it’s an ideal time to increase the volume on the conversation regarding exporting and importing for our local and regional firms.”

Organisers have said it is intended that the Sunday will be more of a family day, with interactive exhibits and displays, and the Monday will be a networking and information day for businesses.

The event will have special guest speakers and break-out sessions dealing with a range of current topics on the Monday. The event is being backed by media sponsors, The Bay and inTheBay, ensuring that both the B2B and B2C markets are targeted to maximise exposure and attendance for exhibitors.

Live coverage on The Bay Radio will take place over both days, reaching tens of thousands of listeners across north Lancashire and south Cumbria. Whilst the title of the event is 'North Lancs Expo', the chamber says it should represent the ever-growing co-operation of businesses around the Morecambe Bay Economic region.

The chamber says the area is becoming a very economically important area within the energy generation, defence, education, and transport industries, and with the new £41m Health Innovation Campus - which will focus on innovation and research in health - at Lancaster University moving closer to fruition.

The event has been supported by The Bay, which will host live broadcasts from the Lancaster Brewery during the occasion.

Managing director of The Bay Bill Johnston said: “Due to our huge reach across all demographics, it is a perfect opportunity for us to team up with the Chamber to promote the best of what North Lancashire and the Morecambe Bay region has to offer."

Mr Johnston added: “As well as giving the event huge pre-promotional publicity to the benefit of all exhibitors and partners involved, we’ll also be live from the event on both days talking to as many exhibitors and members of the public as possible.

“This really is a fantastic initiative that the chamber is driving and we are thrilled to be part of it."
