One of the finalists in the Best Small Independent Retailer category is hoping that its bond with nature will result in success at the Bay Living Awards.

Based in Kendal, 'Begin with Nature' supplies natural handmade body and bath products, including bath bombs, face and body creams, and many other products.

The outlet in the town only opened in February this year.

The owner of the shop, Sandra Rodrigues, said: "I had been selling these products for nearly a year either on my Facebook page or at craft and Christmas fairs. I also rented space in the Westmorland Shopping Centre last Christmas.

"The response I was getting towards the products was very good, so I decided to open the shop, as there is nothing of the sort in Kendal."

The products are all natural and handmade, in Cheshire, by Posh Brats, a family run business.

Ms Rodrigues added: "As I listen to the Bay Radio every day at the shop, I couldn't help but listen about the Bay Living Awards.

"I decided to nominate myself thinking I would never be chosen.

"After five months in business, being nominated as a finalist for the first ever Bay Living Awards is both exciting and overwhelming. I am very proud. I was also so surprised that I couldn't help shedding a tear when I heard my name on the radio."

All products are safe for sensitive skin, made with 100 per cent organic ingredients, and are cruelty free, certified by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).

The Bay Living Awards take place at Lancaster University on September 7
